Mental disorders affect approximately 15-20 percent of Canadian youth and about 70% of these disorders begin prior to the age of 25 years.

It is therefore highly likely that educators will be faced with having to deal with young people who are experiencing or living with mental illness. In order to assist educators in their work, the Sun Life Financial Chair Team has created the following mental health education module specifically designed to help inform educators about some of the most common mental disorders found in young people.

This resource is meant to be used in conjunction with the Mental Health and High School Curriculum Guide for teachers to review or upgrade their knowledge about mental disorders. It can also be used as a resource for classroom use if so desired.
