ucators can play a very important and supportive ongoing role in the lives of students struggling with mental health problems.The Academy in School Mental Health is focused on providing educators (all school staff) with a variety of tools and techniques that make sense.
The two-day interactive workshop will provide attendees with opportunities to learn more about teen mental health. The goal is to provide educators with an arsenal of tools, information and techniques that they can use with their students, in the classroom and feel empowered to teach their students about mental health.
Dates: July 8 and 9, 2013
Location: Halifax West High School
Fee: $250 (early bird until June 10) or $300 afterwards
Key note speakers include:
• Dr. Stan Kutcher - Youth Suicide: School Based Strategies
• Dr. Penny Corkum – Dealing with ADHD in the Classroom
• Barbara Kaiser – Bullying: What do we really know?
• Dr. Kathy Pajer - Self Harm
Also included will be a variety of breakout sessions aimed at providing educators with tools they need to empower them to be able to positively impact student mental health in the classroom and in their schools. These breakout sessions include: Dr. Wade Junek, Dr. Sabina Abidi, Ms. Yifeng Wei, Dr. Alexa Bagnell, Dr. Suzanne Zinck, Trang Nguyen and IWK Teachers - Melanie Goodday and Julia Martino.
