Transitions

“Transitions: Student Reality Check”, is the first Canadian publication of its kind.  However, this resource also has a US version, listing resources applicable to US schools and healthcare institutions.  The guide provides first-year students with information on topics including time management, relationships, sexual activity, mental illness, suicide and addictions. The booklet also includes mental health self-help information and contains recommendations where students can go to get help on their campus. Survey data of students shows that over 90% like the materials, about 40% discussed them with a friend and about 20% sought help for mental health problems because of what they learned.  This demonstrates the utility and positive effect of this resource.

The “Transitions” package includes two parts: A larger resource book with in depth information about a wide variety of first year transitions issues, and a smaller accompanying booklet that can be a handy referral pocket sized guide.

“The information contained in these booklets is a necessary bit of knowledge for not only students, but those that have any association with them including teachers, parents, friends, etc. It is a very well organized and packaged source of information.”
~ Mike MacIsaac, Student Development Officer, Cape Breton University
